What My Athletes Are Saying

“John’s course literally changed the course of my running forever. His structured programme, detailed insights on mobility, strength and nutrition, coupled with a clear programme of running to achieve my short, medium and long-term goals. John delivers his course with an approachable style. He successfully breaks down complex theory into practical actions and I’m forever grateful.”

3rd place - 55km trail

" With John's program, training plan, and support, I've accomplished what I thought was impossible: completing a 55 km trail race and finishing in third place with a little running background. The results say it all.

His program is well-structured, easy to follow, and highly effective. The mobility and strength workouts, along with many other tips, made a real difference. But the best part is the personal assistance through Nolio. I have to say, I didn’t expect such a high level of involvement! John was incredibly responsive and supportive. I trusted the process, and it paid off.

This program has everything a runner needs to reach their goals. I highly recommend it! "

" John has helped me a lot with his broad knowledge on so much running topics, and his training plan that focused on developing specific areas of my running that I needed to make progress.

The most valuable aspect for me was to learn to focus on my heart rate during training. He taught me more about how to calculate my target heart rate for different workout types.

I would recommend his coaching to anyone, as we have good communication, he is a very professional coach (and also an olympic athlete), and he created an exceptional schedule which made me progress a lot and enjoy the journey. "

" Having John as a coach has really improved my running, helping me get my 10 km time under 35 minutes. In one month, I managed to cut 3 minutes off my time. When I was looking for a coach, I knew I wanted someone with experience, and now I feel like I'm on the right track. After an injury that kept me from running for a year and a half, I felt pretty hopeless. John's knowledge has been amazing. We’ve talked about preventing achilles injuries, nutrition, and the best running shoes. He clearly knows his stuff and always gives great advice. I chose John because you don’t get as fast as he is without learning a lot along the way. I genuinely think he's a great coach because of that."

Hey mom. I made it!

I chase dreams

I started running back in 2016, at 19 years of age.

Field hockey was my first love, but I couldn't make the national team... So I switched to running.

However, I used to be a fraternity student with an unhealthy lifestyle. So one day, I quit alcohol. And when I graduated as biomedical engineer in 2022, I decided to chase a crazy dream... The Olympics.

Fastforward, and I qualified for the 2024 Olympics in the 5000m.

Even better than that, out of the 42 qualified athletes I made the Olympic Final, placing 11th. I surpassed everyone's expectations, including my own.

What you'll find in my training program

1. A training plan

Training plans for 5KM, 10KM, half-marathon, and marathon. Easily accessible via PDF or via the coaching app Nolio.

Nolio

All your trainings in a calender.

Get analytics about your training (training load, etc.)

Your paces and training zones automatically calculated.

+ For every workout, its specific goal(s) are added (in the context of your overall plan), as well as some crucial guidelines when necessary.

2. A strength and mobility program

Strength will make you a more explosive runner, improve your running economy & coordination, and prevent running injuries.

Three different strength programs: beginner, intermediate, and advanced level.

Mobility program that focuses on three main areas: the lower back, the hips, and the ankles.

The goal of each exercise is added + detailed information on how to execute every exercise.

3. Guides & videos about food, recovery, mental toughness, raceday preparation, and more

Some more feedback from my athletes

John's program is incredible. If I had to give 3 positive points, I'd say this:
(1) The beginning of the program is very gradual, helping to avoid injury.
(2) If you want to adapt your program, just ask and John will do it for you.
(3) The program can be adapted for a 5km or even a marathon (depending on what you're planning), which is its main advantage I think.

Pierre

Thank you for the training plan for half-marathon. Never thought I'd be able to run it this smooth 3 months ago!

Louis

I want to express my appreciation for the training plan, instructions and support! I did not expect that level of engagement when buying the course. Thank you for being responsive and supportive! That worked as well as zone 1 trainings. Apparently they did its thing to my body because I successfully finished the trail with the 3rd place!

Aleksandra

I just wrapped up your running plan. It’s absolutely fire. Went from a 38:30 10k to 36:15 or so. It’s by far better than any other app or anything i’ve tried.

The gym workout that elevates me to the elite running field

  • What is my training phylosophy?
My training phylosophy is the one that made me and my current athletes win medals at the global stage, but adapted to your level. It is volume and threshold (zone 3) focused. However, don't expect a uniquely developed training method by some random running guru. It's simply the training phylosophy that most of the elite (middle-) distance runners apply. Robust and effective.
  • Is this training program right for you?
This training program has helped runners of all levels. Whether you would like to run your first 5KM, or you are aiming for a sub 36min 10km, or you are training for your 4th marathon. However, if you're an elite runner (international level), I suggest going for personal coaching.
  • How do I know this will work for me?
The training philosophy and insights on recovery, nutrition, etc. are the same as those I've shared with a large number of athletes who have achieved new personal bests. Moreover, I apply them in my own daily routine, as they have helped me make the jump from amateur runner to Olympic athlete. There's no better way to achieve your goal than to follow the advice that has helped countless other amateur and elite runners to improve significantly.
  • How is this different from other programs that haven't worked for me in the past?
Here's the truth... Many coaches come up with their own training philosophies, seemingly controversial advice, or boast about their coaching certifications. If a coach hasn't had athletes reach elite level, or hasn't raced at elite level themselves before, it's hard to claim that their advice really works. Getting an amateur runner to progress is much easier than optimising the progression of a top level runner who might otherwise plateau. My advice and training philosophy are not ‘special’. They are simply what a large number of world-class runners apply because they work and are effective. Moreover, I have achieved impressive progression curves for many of the athletes I coach.
  • Will I be able to speak to John?
Yes, my aim is to maximise your progress. If you have any questions or need advice on any running related topic, I'm more than happy to help. You can send me a message via the chat function on the online training program, or by email (johnheymans@telenet.be).
  • When I buy your training program, is it a one-time or monthly payment?
It's a one-time payment. You buy the program once and get life-time access. :)
  • Is there one plan per distance or multiple plans?
Right now there is one training plan per distance. However, I often make a couple of chances for my athletes (at the start of the training plan) when it's necessary.
  • How many weeks do the training plans last?
They're all 12-weeks long. However, if your goal is nearer, or a couple of weeks further away, I can tune the training plan to make it fit your racing schedule.
