+2000 runners achieved incredible results under my coaching

“John’s training literally changed the course of my running forever. His detailed insights on mobility, strength and nutrition, coupled with a clear programme of running to achieve my short, medium and long-term goals. John delivers his knowledge with an approachable style. He successfully breaks down complex theory into practical actions and I’m forever grateful.”
Matt
I just wrapped up your running plan. It’s absolutely fire.
Went from a 38:30 10k to about 36:15 or so. It’s by far better than any other app or anything i’ve tried.

3rd place - 55km trail
" With John's training plan and support, I've accomplished what I thought was impossible: completing a 55 km trail race and finishing in third place with a little running background. The results say it all.
His training is well-structured, easy to follow, and highly effective. The mobility and strength workouts, along with many other tips, made a real difference. But the best part is the personal assistance through Nolio. I have to say, I didn’t expect such a high level of involvement! John was incredibly responsive and supportive. I trusted the process, and it paid off.
This training and educational resources has everything a runner needs to reach their goals. I highly recommend it! "

I don't brag, but my athletes do ...

Working with John has been a fantastic experience and has truly transformed my running journey.
He has a gift for simplifying complex concepts into easy-to-follow advice, always grounded in science, which makes everything feel achievable.
John’s emphasis on enjoying the process has been especially important for me as a non-elite runner. I’s made training both effective and enjoyable.
Letting him handle the planning has been a huge weight off my shoulders, allowing me to focus on simply running and loving it.
The results have exceeded my expectations: I’ve gone from a 1:45 half marathon personal best to 1:24 after a year of his coaching.
More than the numbers, though, I appreciate the joy and confidence I’ve found in running under his guidance.
I’m so grateful to John and highly recommend him to anyone looking to grow as a runner while keeping the fun at the heart of it all.
Loic
Thank you for the training plan for half-marathon.
Never thought I'd be able to run it this smooth 3 months ago!
Louis
John's program is incredible. If I had to give 2 positive points, I'd say this:
- The beginning of the program is very gradual, helping to avoid injury.
- the program has tought me a lot on important topics such asmobility, mental preparation, and more.

John has been instrumental in helping me achieve my running goals. His personalized approach and consistent support have kept me motivated and on track. By taking a step back and focusing on foundational training, he helped me build a solid base that has paid off tremendously.
Since being coached by John, I've noticed substantial improvements in my running performance. My endurance has increased, my pace has improved, and I recover faster after long runs. John's techniques have not only made me a better runner but also a more confident one.

More happy athletes

Hi John, I just wanted to say a big thank you for your training schedules I ran my marathon today, and there’s no way I could’ve done it without your guidance.
After just 7 months of running again, I was aiming for 3:30 (maybe a little optimistic, but if you don’t try you always miss) and finished in 3:46. A little off the mark, but honestly, I’m still super proud! More importantly, I’ve truly fallen back in love with running these past months and today lit a fire to keep going and keep improving.
I’d love your advice on what you think would be a smart next goal: should I focus on getting faster in the 5K/10K range, or build towards a stronger half marathon?
Also, as I mentioned before, if there’s anything I can do to support your coaching (testimonial, review, or anything else), I’m more than happy to help. One very happy coachee over here!
Thanks again for everything.
Lesley
I joined a 10KM race, despite never having run more than 5KM before and being quite bad at cardio. So, I had to start training and learn everything about running.
Thanks to John, I had a structured plan to follow. This was incredibly important because it allowed me to focus solely on training without having to search for various instructional materials.
Although I haven’t yet achieved the impressive times of some seasoned runners, I am no longer afraid of long-distance running. I recommend John’s training to everyone, whether you’re a beginner or looking to improve your speed. After all, as an Olympic runner, John certainly knows more than most people.
Ronald
John's training schedules are varied, fun, clear and above all efficient. I enjoy working out with a clear plan as well as a clear goal. I enjoy running and feel my form growing steadily.
The extra information about the how, why and what make this an ideal way for me to pursue my sporting goals, coupled with a dose of fun due to the variety!

I chose this running plan because it’s based on heart rate, which I found very effective. By the time the program asked me to define my pace, I had already built my fitness and confidence to a level I didn’t expect.
My training plan is well-designed, with a mix of easy runs, long runs, and fartlek workouts that allow my body to recover while maximizing performance and reducing the risk of injury.
My favorite part was the mobility exercises. They gave me the flexibility I needed for running and didn't have the same discomfort as static stretching.
I also love that there’s an app, making it easy to track everything on my phone.
Kanaris

The program is simple in terms of fitting into daily life, yet it has proven for me to be very effective (5k progress from 3’56”/km to 3’15”/km in less then a year).
John educates you about everything around running. From reasons/goals for each type of session to importance of recovery and strength.
This while being accessible, motivating, down to earth and professional.

And more...

Working with John for 4 months to prepare for my first marathon was an incredible experience.
John created a personalized training plan that balanced challenge with recovery, adjusting it weekly as needed to keep me on track.
His expertise in race-day strategy, nutrition, and mental preparation was invaluable, and his constant support and encouragement kept me motivated throughout.
Thanks to John, I not only completed my first marathon but achieved a personal best that was way faster than my wildest dreams. I highly recommend him to anyone looking for a knowledgeable and dedicated coach!

Hello John, I wanted to thank you because I bought your training plan 2 months ago to prepare for a 5K and it was very useful to me: I improved my time by almost 30 seconds (I ran in 17:39 yesterday)!
I really appreciated your approach with the 4 pace zones (notably for the easy runs by really running based on feel without worrying about pace), all the work in zone 3 (I think that helped me the most), the addition of strides once a week as well as a strength and mobility session (very well done with the PDFs and videos).
It really changed my previous approach where I was doing much fewer threshold sessions and way too many at 5K pace (probably to give myself confidence!).
I really love the 5K and I think I still have a good margin for improvement because I’m only running "just" 50 km/week (and even sometimes less).
Thanks again for all your programs and also your videos that I watch on YouTube and which complement it all very well!
Good luck for your season :)
Nicolas

When I decided to run my first marathon, I knew I needed a solid plan to get me to the finish line. As someone with an athletics background (I competed from ages 10 to 21), I figured I could handle my own training. But wow, John Heymans’ plan completely blew me away. It was such a valuable addition to my prep, and honestly, it took all the stress out of figuring things out myself.
I also chose John’s plan because it’s part of how he supports his career as a professional athlete. As an entrepreneur and former athlete, I can’t help but admire and want to support that. It’s amazing to see someone channel their passion into something that helps others while backing their own dreams.
Lesley

John's program was especially effective thanks to its heart rate based training approach, which tailored the workouts to my personal fitness level.
Training build up gradually and by focusing on heart rate it allowed to train efficiently without overexertion.
Perfect for runners aiming for a personalized approach to reach peak performance.
Overall great training plan and strength exercises that help enhance speed!

This many happy athletes can't be wrong...

John can offer comprehensive couching for anyone interested in running. In addition to varying running workouts, John has provided me valuable insights about nutrition and mobility & strength exercises. Training plans are easy to implement as John will tailor and change the schedule according to your needs. Overall, training has been motivating with John’s coaching as it brings more structure, variety and valuable insights to you running.

A plan adapted to all levels and a coach who listens carefully. What's more, John's experience as a top-level athlete will give you that little extra you need to achieve your goals. It's all a question of trust and patience.

" John has helped me a lot with his broad knowledge on so much running topics, and his training plan that focused on developing specific areas of my running that I needed to make progress.
The most valuable aspect for me was to learn to focus on my heart rate during training. He taught me more about how to calculate my target heart rate for different workout types.
I would recommend his coaching to anyone, as we have good communication, he is a very professional coach (and also an olympic athlete), and he created an exceptional schedule which made me progress a lot and enjoy the journey. "

" Having John as a coach has really improved my running, helping me get my 10 km time under 35 minutes. In one month, I managed to cut 3 minutes off my time. When I was looking for a coach, I knew I wanted someone with experience, and now I feel like I'm on the right track. After an injury that kept me from running for a year and a half, I felt pretty hopeless. John's knowledge has been amazing. We’ve talked about preventing achilles injuries, nutrition, and the best running shoes. He clearly knows his stuff and always gives great advice. I chose John because you don’t get as fast as he is without learning a lot along the way. I genuinely think he's a great coach because of that."

Not sure if my training is made for you? Let’s clear a few things up before you lace up.
I am coaching first time runners as well as elite athletes quilifying for International Championships. If you’re running care about improving, this is for you. You don’t need to be fast. You don’t need to feel like a “real runner.” You just need to want to train smarter.
Nope. A race gives us a focus, but your plan can also be built around training blocks or personal goals (like getting consistent, having fun, or building base).
If you're trained 1:1 by me, yes. I'll be available via WhatsApp every day. If you have any questions or need advice on any running related topic, I'm more than happy to help. My aim is to maximize your progress.
If you bought the personalized plan made by me, there's no direct communication with me. Unfortunately, for that monthly subscription price, I cannot make time free to respond to (potentially) daily messages. You are welcome to send me an email anytime at support@johnheymans.com and I will be happy to help. However, if you'd like a direct communication line with me through WhatsApp, consider upgrading to 1:1 coaching.
1500m, 5K, 10K, half marathon, full marathon, or any distance in between. You choose the target, I build the plan.
Yes, as soon as you subscribe, I get notified, and start planning your training. As I am no AI bot, you'll need to give me 48h before your training is fully planned. I need time to think on how to structure your training according to the information you shared with me.
This training program has helped runners of all levels achieve their goals. Whether you would like to run your first 5km, aiming for a sub-36min 10km, or training for your fourth marathon.
That said, if you're an elite runner (international level), I suggest going for personal, 1:1, coaching.
The training philosophy and insights on recovery, nutrition, etc. are the same as those I've shared with a large number of athletes who have achieved new personal bests.
Moreover, I apply them in my own daily routine, as they have helped me make the jump from amateur runner to Olympic athlete.
There's no better way to achieve your goal than to follow the advice that has helped countless other amateur and elite runners improve significantly.
My training philosophy is the one that made me and my current athletes win medals at the global stage, but adapted to your level. It is volume and threshold (zone 3) focused. However, don't expect a uniquely developed training method by a random running guru. It's simply the training philosophy that most of the elite (middle-)distance runners apply: robust, effective, and adapted to your level and/or specific training needs.
Before the end of your training plan, I'll send you a series of emails to discuss your new training goals, or to tell you how to stop/unsubscribe if you decide not to continue together. So no need to think about it, I send you reminders.
If you're thinking of stopping before the end of your training plan, just shoot me a message at support@johnheymans.com and I'll do the necessary for you.
Here's the truth...
Many coaches come up with their own training philosophies, seemingly controversial advice, or boast about their coaching certifications.
If a coach hasn't had athletes reach elite level, or hasn't raced at elite level themselves before, it's hard to claim their advice really works. Getting an amateur runner to progress is much easier than optimizing the progression of a top level runner who might otherwise plateau.
My advice and training philosophy are not ‘special’. They are simply what a large number of world-class runners apply because they work and are effective. Moreover, I have achieved impressive progression curves for many of the athletes I coach, reaching international championships.
My training approach is based on heart rate zones rather than paces. This is also how I train personally, as do most elite and Olympic runners.
Each workout is designed to provide a specific training stimulus.
The problem with training based on pace or speed is that the stimulus your body receives can vary depending on environmental conditions. Running at the same pace on a windy, hilly road doesn’t feel the same as running that pace on a flat, windless road.
The solution is to train by heart rate. Whether the terrain is hilly or flat, targeting a specific heart rate zone allows your pace to adjust to the conditions, ensuring your body receives (almost) the same physiological stimulus regardless of the conditions.
That’s exactly why I offer 1:1 coaching, here we can make adjustments into your plan along the way.
